At Kents Hill Junior School the children learn about Computing via a range of exciting, engaging and motivating activities. These include learning the skills to make animations, recording and analysing their own survey data using spreadsheets as well as making presentations and publications about other subjects in the curriculum. In addition, the children have specialist Computer Science lessons, where they learn and develop their skills and understanding of how computers work using programmes such as Scratch, Python, Kodu and Excel. We also teach the children about how to use technology constructively and safely, making them aware of how to be responsible and safe users of today’s technology.
The school has laptops and software for use in classrooms by the children distributed around the school, as well as a dedicated set of laptops and software for the Computer Science curriculum, all connected to a secure, filtered curriculum network.
